    Big Mama’s Kitchen & Catering is a family-owned and -operated business specializing in soul food and traditional American cuisine. Big Mama's offers a unique variety of delicious home-cooked appetizers, entrées, and desserts, they are best known for their famous Oven-Fried Chicken and delectable Sweet Potato Pie ice Cream!

    Their catering service began over 50 years ago as a part-time home-based business in the kitchen of founder; Patricia “Big Mama” Barron.  Acquiring her desire to cook from her beloved grandmother Lillie, Big Mama always wanted to own her on restaurant and in December of 2007 at the age of 62, she opened the doors of her first restaurant, “Big Mama’s Kitchen & Catering” uniquely located in the cafeteria of an old school formerly known as the Nebraska School for the Deaf.

    Big Mama enjoyed cooking and feeding people in her restaurant until her passing in 2018. Today her legacy of great tasting home-cooked food, community and second chances continue as her family is committed to growing and expanding the legacy she created. In 2020 the restaurant moved to its new location, North Omaha’s first food and drink hub, in the Highlander Accelerator located at 2112 North 30th Street.
